Director of Connect Cognitive Therapy

Dr. Byrne is the founder and Clinical Director of Connect Cognitive Therapy. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at McGill University in 2006 and has been a Registered Psychologist in Ontario since 2009.
Dr. Byrne works with adults (18+) across a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, and the psychological impact of medical conditions. His approach is grounded in evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioural therapy, while remaining flexible and tailored to the individual.
Clients often describe Dr. Byrne’s style as warm, practical, and easy to engage with. He places a strong emphasis on helping clients make sense of what they are experiencing and developing strategies that lead to meaningful, sustainable change.
Across his clinical, research, and teaching roles, Dr. Byrne has nearly 20 years of experience. He maintains a focused caseload and works with a limited number of clients, allowing for a high level of care and attention.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Byrne provides consultation and is actively involved in supporting the clinical team at Connect Cognitive Therapy.
Dr. Byrne completed postdoctoral training in cognitive-behavioural therapy at Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, followed by advanced training in health psychology at Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine (MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper University Hospital). He has worked extensively in hospital and academic settings, including Trillium Health Partners, and has been involved in the training of medical learners through the University of Toronto.
He is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology.
