Sumayya holds a Masters of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Toronto and is a Registered Social Worker / Psychotherapist with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Sumayya has previously worked as a peer support counsellor with Naseeha Mental Health and completed her graduate training at Toronto Western Hospital mental health and addictions outpatient clinic.
As a psychotherapist, Sumayya has experience working with individuals, families, and couples, supporting diverse populations varying in age, ethnicity, and mental health needs. Some presenting issues that Sumayya is skilled in addressing include: anxiety, depression, OCD, behavioural addictions, family and social issues, relationship issues, trauma, life transitions, grief and loss, personal and professional development, and self-improvement.
Sumayya takes a holistic, client-centred and strengths-based approach, with therapy tailored to individual needs and goals. She uses trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and culturally sensitive practices to engage clients in a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment that is built on genuine respect and trust. Sumayya is versed in multiple therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, solution focused, and emotion focused therapy.
Sumayya’s sessions are informed by an integrated model of clinical practice, working collaboratively with clients toward a journey of growth and healing. You can expect to experience a safe and open space to explore your concerns as you challenge yourself and learn new skills and strategies.
